This set introduced into English a number of radical changes. The most radical change is the layout, which has been completely redesigned to accommodate binary codes for the new E-Reader.

The set introduces two new type of Trainer cards. The first is the Supporter. You can play only one Supporter card each turn. When you play a Supporter, put it next to your Active Pokémon. When your turn ends, discard the Supporter.

The second new Trainer type is the Technical Machine. A Technical Machine adds an attack to a Pokemon. That Pokémon may use the Technical Machine card's attack instead of its own. At the end of your turn, you discard the Technical Machine card.

For reasons known only to the Pokemon Company, Expedition and its Japanese counterparts dispense with the familiar level system for identifying different Pokemon of the same type, giving each Pokemon an arcane identification code instead.
